The Oklahoma Wesleyan softball team earned a conference sweep over Bethel College on Sunday, taking both games behind strong offensive production and solid pitching performances. With the wins, the Lady Eagles improve to 33-9 overall and 16-4 in KCAC play as the regular season begins to wind down.
In game one, Oklahoma Wesleyan pulled away late for an 11-3 victory. The Lady Eagles totaled 14 hits and used a five-run sixth inning to break the game open. Brooklyn Purtell led the offense with a home run, triple, and three RBIs, while Maddie Ogle went 3-for-4 with four RBIs. Abby Huie added two doubles and scored twice, and Raegan Rector crossed the plate three times. In the circle, Gabby Simpson got the start before Abigail Rogers and Addison Dorsay combined in relief to limit Bethel to three runs.
In game two, the Lady Eagles secured the sweep with a 5-3 win behind a complete game from Yina Vargas. Vargas allowed just three runs, two earned, while striking out four over seven innings. Offensively, Maria Fory paced the lineup with two hits, including a triple, and scored twice. Abby Huie drove in two runs, and Lailah Hernandez added an RBI as Oklahoma Wesleyan built an early lead and held off a late Bethel push.
Oklahoma Wesleyan will return to action on Tuesday, April 21 at home against the University of Saint Mary, with first pitch set for 2:00 and 4:00 PM as the regular season nears its conclusion.
