Softball Sweeps Saint Mary at Home

Bartlesville, OK —

Oklahoma Wesleyan softball put together a complete day at the plate and in the circle, sweeping Saint Mary in a home doubleheader on Tuesday. The Lady Eagles now sit at 35–9 overall and 18–4 in KCAC play as they head into the final stretch of the regular season.

Game one saw OKWU waste little time creating separation. Brooklyn Purtell sparked the offense early with a two-run home run in the first, and the Lady Eagles followed with a four-run second inning that quickly put Saint Mary on its heels. Abby Huie delivered a key two-RBI single in that stretch, while Raegan Rector and Bailey Gustus each contributed to the scoring push. Purtell struck again later in the game with her second home run of the afternoon, helping seal an 8–2 win. In the circle, Gabby Simpson worked through five innings to earn the decision before Abigail Rogers finished things off in relief.

The second game required a bit more patience, as Saint Mary grabbed the early lead before Oklahoma Wesleyan settled in. The Lady Eagles responded in the second inning and then took control in the fifth, using a two-run home run from Maria Fory to swing the momentum for good. Maddie Ogle added an RBI double in the same inning, and Brooklyn Purtell later extended the lead with another long ball. Abby Huie paced the lineup with three hits, while Yina Vargas delivered a steady outing in the circle, limiting damage and keeping OKWU in position to pull away for the 7–3 victory.

Oklahoma Wesleyan returns to action Thursday the 23rd at home for a doubleheader against Bethany College.
