A dominant performance on both sides of the ball lifted Oklahoma Wesleyan to its second win of the KCAC Tournament, as the Eagles run-ruled Evangel 11-0 on Thursday.
The Eagles wasted no time getting on the board, pushing across a run in the first inning before adding two more in the second behind a two-run home run from Caden Azlin. Oklahoma Wesleyan continued to build its lead in the third and fourth innings, with Braydon Caldwell driving in a run and JT Maloney adding a solo home run to make it 5-0.
On the mound, Ashton Luera was in complete control, tossing a dominant complete game shutout. He allowed just two hits while striking out five, keeping Evangel off balance all afternoon.
OKWU broke the game open in the seventh inning with a six-run outburst to trigger the run rule. Gilbert Morales and Caldwell both homered in the inning, while Daurys Manzanillo and Maloney each drove in runs to cap off the offensive surge.
Maloney led the Eagles at the plate with three hits and three RBIs, while Caldwell added three hits and two RBIs. Morales and Azlin each contributed multi-run home runs as Oklahoma Wesleyan finished with 12 hits in the win.
With the victory, the Eagles advance in the KCAC Tournament and will play Friday at 3:30 p.m. against an opponent to be determined following the 9:00 a.m. game.
