Women's Volleyball finished up the Stars Invitational this Saturday with a match-up against Texas A&M Texarkana and Wayland Baptist Univesrity. Starting off with the Texas A&M Texarkana, the Lady Eagles were dominant and showed grit in game on of the day.
Taking the 4 set victory over Texarkana, three Lady Eagles were in double-digit kills & led to the Lady Eagles hitting a solid .202%. Andy Santa Cruz brought the spark against Texarkana, earning her second double-double in a row with 22 kills and 22 digs. Following closely behind Santa Cruz,
Maia Rubio (10) and
Sara Anez (14) combined for 24 of the 61 kills from the Lady Eagles.
Defensively, Malu Caycedo was dominant yet again; ending game one with an impressive 28 digs in the back court.
Jaylea Laughlin and Ana Victoria Vian were the dynamic duo in game 1, combining for 46 assists and 17 digs.
The Lady Eagles faced off against the Wayland Baptist University Lady Pioneers for their final game of the Stars Invitation, looking to close out the weekend of play on a high note. Game 3 was a constance back and forth battle between the two, as the Lady Eagles fell to WBU in 3 sets.
Losing set one 26-24, set two 25-20, and set three 27-25; the Lady Eagles rallied together for three sets straight, coming up short in the end. Santa Cruz led the Lady Eagles at the net for another solid showing from the junior, with 11 kills on 33 attempts and accumulated 9 digs.
The Lady Eagles have the week off from the play, looking to hit the road against on the 27th to the Midland University Showdown in Fremont, Nebraska.
