Box Score

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. — Oklahoma Wesleyan University Women's Soccer showed its resilience on the road Saturday night, finding a late equalizer to earn a 1-1 draw against John Brown University at Alumni Field.

After conceding an early goal and trailing for more than 75 minutes, the Lady Eagles continued to push numbers forward and were rewarded in the closing stages. Ana Chaves converted from the penalty spot in the 86th minute to bring OKWU level and secure the result.

John Brown struck first in the 11th minute when Holly Lanter found the back of the net off an assist from Andi Riley, giving the Golden Eagles an early 1-0 advantage. OKWU goalkeeper Alessandra Martinez helped keep the deficit at one throughout the opening half, making four saves before the break as John Brown generated eight first-half shots.

The Lady Eagles created chances of their own despite playing from behind. Ashley Perez tested the JBU goalkeeper in the 12th minute, while Isabelle Simoneau put another effort on frame minutes later. OKWU also earned back-to-back corner kicks near the half-hour mark but entered the locker room trailing 1-0.

Oklahoma Wesleyan came out of halftime with renewed attacking pressure and began to tilt the field in its favor. After recording just two shots in the opening 45 minutes, the Lady Eagles fired 10 attempts in the second half, forcing John Brown to defend its advantage deep into the match.

Perez continued to apply pressure in the attacking third, while Chaves put a header on target in the 62nd minute. Mesa Broquard also provided a spark off the bench, forcing another save in the 71st minute as OKWU searched for the breakthrough.

The Lady Eagles' persistence finally paid off with the clock winding down.

In the 86th minute, OKWU was awarded a penalty kick, and Chaves stepped to the spot with the match hanging in the balance. The junior calmly converted the opportunity for her third goal of the season, leveling the score at 1-1 and completing the Lady Eagles' comeback.

The late equalizer capped a determined second-half performance from Oklahoma Wesleyan, which refused to let the early deficit dictate the match.

OKWU finished the night with 12 shots, including seven on frame, while John Brown recorded 13 total attempts and six shots on goal. The Lady Eagles earned six corner kicks compared to nine for JBU. Martinez went the full 90 minutes between the posts and finished with five saves, providing a steady presence behind the OKWU back line.

Perez and Chaves each put two shots on target to help lead the attack, while Kirsten Bruhns and Simoneau recorded three total attempts apiece. Chaves ultimately delivered the decisive moment from the penalty spot to ensure the Lady Eagles left Siloam Springs with a result.

With the draw, Oklahoma Wesleyan moves to 1-2-2 on the season, while John Brown moves to 4-1-1.

For the Lady Eagles, it was a night defined by persistence. After going a goal down early, OKWU stayed composed, continued to build through the midfield and kept knocking on the door until the breakthrough finally arrived.

Down early, level late — the Lady Eagles battled until the final whistle to bring a result back to Bartlesville.
