SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Oklahoma Wesleyan Opens Conference Play with Dominant 6-0 Victory Over Evangel

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Oklahoma Wesleyan University Women's Soccer opened Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference play in commanding fashion Wednesday evening, finding the back of the net five times in the opening 45 minutes en route to a 6-0 shutout victory over Evangel University at Coryell Field.

The Lady Eagles controlled the run of play from the opening whistle, overwhelming the Evangel back line with consistent pressure in the attacking third. OKWU finished the match with a 27-5 advantage in total shots and placed 18 attempts on frame while limiting the Valor to just two shots on goal.

It took Oklahoma Wesleyan less than five minutes to break the deadlock. Isabelle Simoneau opened the scoring in the 5th minute, giving the Lady Eagles an early 1-0 advantage. Simoneau struck again in the 19th minute, finishing an opportunity created by Vanessa Krumbholz to complete her brace and double the OKWU lead.

The Lady Eagles continued to dictate possession and pin Evangel inside its defensive half before the attack erupted late in the opening period.

Macy Butler made it 3-0 in the 40th minute with her first goal of the season. Just under two minutes later, Ana Chaves joined the scoring column with her fourth goal of the campaign. OKWU wasn't finished. Butler struck again at the 42:32 mark off an assist from Alexis Aguirre, completing her own brace and sending the Lady Eagles into halftime with a commanding 5-0 advantage.

Oklahoma Wesleyan carried its attacking momentum into the second half. Chaves supplied the final blow in the 54th minute, finding the back of the net for the second time on the evening and pushing the margin to 6-0. The goal marked her team-leading fifth of the season.

With a comfortable advantage, the Lady Eagles continued to move the ball through the midfield, work the flanks and generate chances while keeping Evangel from establishing sustained possession in dangerous areas. OKWU registered 11 shots in the second half and conceded only four.

Simoneau, Butler and Chaves each recorded a brace, accounting for all six Oklahoma Wesleyan goals. Krumbholz and Aguirre each supplied an assist, while Krumbholz was also active in the attack with four shots and two attempts on target. Simoneau finished with five shots, including three on frame.

At the other end of the pitch, the Lady Eagle back line kept the door firmly shut. Goalkeeper Leona Kraus went the full 90 minutes between the posts and turned away both shots she faced to secure the clean sheet. The OKWU defense surrendered just five total shots and one corner kick throughout the match.

The victory moves Oklahoma Wesleyan to 2-2-2 overall and 1-0 in KCAC play, giving the Lady Eagles three points to begin their conference campaign. Evangel falls to 1-5 overall and 0-1 in conference action.

For the Lady Eagles, it was a complete 90-minute performance — clinical finishing in front of goal, control through the midfield and a clean sheet on the defensive end — as OKWU kicked off conference play in emphatic fashion.
