STERLING, Kan. — Oklahoma Wesleyan University Women's Soccer put together a commanding 90-minute performance Saturday afternoon, overwhelming Sterling College 5-0 behind relentless attacking pressure and a suffocating defensive effort.
The Lady Eagles wasted little time establishing themselves in the attacking third. Just five minutes into the match, Isabelle Simoneau opened the scoring after connecting on a service from Macy Butler, giving OKWU an early 1-0 advantage. Only 2:31 later, Maddyn Walker found the back of the net to double the lead and put Sterling under immediate pressure.
OKWU continued to dictate the tempo through possession and sustained pressure in Sterling's defensive third. The Lady Eagles peppered the Warrior goal throughout the opening 45 minutes, eventually breaking through for a third time when Taylor Welker struck in the 43rd minute. The late first-half finish sent Oklahoma Wesleyan into the break holding a commanding 3-0 advantage.
The Lady Eagles picked up right where they left off after halftime.
Frederikke Nielsen added her name to the scoresheet in the 53rd minute, extending the advantage to 4-0. Less than three minutes later, OKWU earned an opportunity from the penalty spot, and Ana Chaves calmly converted the penalty kick to make it 5-0.
From there, Oklahoma Wesleyan controlled the remainder of the match, maintaining possession and continuing to generate opportunities in the final third. The Lady Eagles finished with a staggering 46-3 advantage in total shots, placing 27 attempts on frame. OKWU also earned 12 corner kicks while conceding none, illustrating the amount of time the Eagles spent on the front foot.
Simoneau was at the center of the offensive pressure, firing a team-high nine shots with seven on target while recording the opening goal. Nielsen was equally dangerous, putting all four of her attempts on frame and finishing one. Chaves contributed five shots and converted from the spot, while Walker and Welker each supplied a goal to give OKWU five different goal scorers.
While the attack filled the scoresheet, the Lady Eagles' defensive unit was equally impressive. Sterling managed just three shots for the entire match and none in the second half. OKWU's back line consistently disrupted Sterling's buildup, won possession and helped keep the Warriors pinned inside their own half.
The result secured a clean sheet for Oklahoma Wesleyan and capped a complete team performance on the road. With five goals, 27 shots on target and contributions throughout the lineup, the Lady Eagles controlled the match from the opening whistle to the final horn.
Oklahoma Wesleyan improves to 3-2-2 overall and 2-0 in KCAC play, continuing its strong start to the conference slate.
