Box Score Bartlesville, Okla.
Saturday afternoon the #4 ranked OKWU's mens soccer team played host to the #1 team in the nation and reigining two-time defending NAIA national champions, the Eagles of Central Methodist University.
OKWU got the scoring started quickly as Luka Lukic was able to find the back of the net off a second chance effort at the 4:53 minute mark in the match. OKWU seemed to have a spark after this goal that carried throughout the first half. At the 17:53 mintue mark OKWU had a prime opportunity to take a 2 goal lead as regining NAIA Player of the Year, Stefan Lukic, took a pentaly kick that just missed the mark high. OKWU would take a 1-0 lead into the half.
Coming out in the second half Central Methodist seemed to have a new energy as they scored fast. 26 seconds into the 2nd half to be exact, by way of Clayton Duarte, who knocked it in off the post. However, OKWU did not let this affect their play. Not soon after OKWU showed this by answering in the 53:37 minute mark when Pol Mur Llorens was able to find the back of the net off a pass from Stefan Lukic. This goal had the OKWU faithful in attendance and the OKWU bench up on their feet celebrating. OKWU would hold a 2-1 lead for about 20 minutes until CMU's Tom Irion hit the equalizer coming off a corner kick that was assisted by Marcos German. Eagle fans almost saw a last minute hero as Gerardo Lerones Hermida came within mere inches of finding a game winner at the 88:22 minute mark. In a game that was too good to be finished in regular time, German's goal would ultimately send the game into OT.
The first OT was a stalemate, so we would need a second OT to decide a winner. In the second OT at the 104:50 minute mark CMU's Carlos Scheckermann was able to sneak the game winner past OKWU's keeper Alex Vidizoni, who was as solid as he could be in the match for the Eagles.
This game really gave everyone in attendance their money's worth. The Eagles now sit at 13-2-1 on the season. The Eagles next match up comes on Tuesday, March 23rd against conference opponent Ottawa University.
