The Oklahoma Wesleyan Eagles men's soccer team is riding a wave of momentum as they prepare to host the NAIA National Championship Opening Round. The Eagles enter the tournament undefeated, boasting an impressive 18-0-3 overall record that reflects their dominance throughout the season.
After clinching the KCAC Regular Season Championship, the Eagles continued their winning ways in the KCAC Conference Tournament, sweeping their opponents in commanding fashion. They defeated Evangel University 4-0, edged past York University 2-1, and capped the run with a resounding 5-0 victory over Ottawa University in the final.
The accolades didn't stop there. As a team, Oklahoma Wesleyan earned the prestigious KCAC Team of Character Award, adding to their collection of conference titles. Individually, several Eagles stood out:
Luis Vergara – KCAC Defender of the Year two years running, and First Team All-Conference.
Biel Campo – KCAC Most Valuable Player, Attacker of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, and First Team All-Conference.
Tylor Guerrero, Julian Tovar, and Adrian Mejia – First Team All-Conference selections.
Marko Rodic, Santiago Mejia, Nemanja Vukovic, and Alejandro Aleman Lopez – Second Team All-Conference Selection.
Coach Jamie Peterson was named KCAC coach of the year and together with him are phenomenal assistant coaches Stevan Djukic, Cedric Muteshi, Ricardo Navia, and Iker Gonzalez.
With a perfect mix of experience, talent, and chemistry, the Eagles have proven themselves as one of the nation's elite programs. Hosting the opening round gives them a home-field advantage as they aim to continue their unbeaten streak and make a deep run in the NAIA National Championship.
Kickoff for the opening round is set at OKWU's home field, where fans will have the chance to witness history in the making. The Eagles, being top seed in this opening round tournament, have a bye to the final match in this round where they await the winner of Oklahoma City University vs. Westcliff University taking place on November 20th, at 4:00 PM.
