The #6 OKWU Eagles baseball team was on the road on April 27th in Hillsboro, Kansas against the Tabor Bluejays for a conference double header. Game 1 of the double header was won 21-5 by the Eagles; with this win they clenched the Regular Season Championship for the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference. This Championship being their fourth consecutive regular season championship for the Eagles.
Game 1 of the double was a blow out with the eagles stringing together 17 hits, 21 runs, and 0 errors defensively. At the plate, Isaac Wersland and Cody Muncy led the way for the Eagles; Wersland going 2-3 with 2 home runs and 2 RBI, Muncy going 3-5 with 2 home runs and 7 RBI. On the mound for the Eagles, Kellen Brothers pitched 6 innings and only allowed 3 earned runs with 8 strikeouts.
The Bluejays snapped back throughout game two and overcame the first game and gave the Eagles their 6th loss of the season, winning 9-6. Outhitting the Eagles, the Bluejays pulled together in the 6th inning with 5 runs that overtook the Eagles. At the plate, Kelsey Weems (Bluejays) went 2-3 with 1 RBI and scored 2 runs. Each team went through a series of pitchers throughout the 7 innings of play; taking home the win for the Bluejays was Jacob Espitia while the loss went to Eric Nova of the Eagles.
Next up for the Eagles is Southwestern College on April 29th and Avila University for a weekend series.
