The Oklahoma Wesleyan University softball team went head to head here in Bartlesville on April 3rd against the visiting Avila Eagles. Splitting the series, the Eagles came up short Game 1 with a score of 7-5 and overcame adversity in the second game winning 8-5.
Game 1 of the 2 was a head to head pitcher's duel throughout the entire game. Madison McKinney (Avila) ended the game with 9 total strikeouts and only allowed 5 hits in 7 innings; in the end McKinney took home the win for the visiting Eagles. At the plate, Sofia Cardenas led the Eagles going 2-4 with 3 RBI's and 1 run scored. With a late hitting parade in the 7th, the OKWU Eagles were able to put up an additional 4 runs, but were unable to secure the come back and ended with a loss of 7-5.
Overcoming the previous loss, the OKWU Eagles were able to secure the win in the 2nd game with a score of 8-5. At the plate, the Eagles ended the game with 9 hits, 2 of them coming off the hot bats of Tahlor Stefek and Sofia Cardenas with homeruns. On the mound for the OKWU Eagles, Abbey Ely threw 6.1 innings of work and took home the win for the Eagles, while Anastasia Thornhill came in to close the game in the 7th and took home the save for the Eagles.
Next up the Oklahoma Wesleyan University Lady Eagles are hitting the road to face off against the KCAC opponent the Ottawa Braves on April 7th and will be back in Bartlesville on the 10th to go head to head against the Southwestern College Mound Builders.
