The Lady Eagles softball team traveled to Ottawa, Kansas on Wednesday, April 7th to go head to head with 25 Ottawa Braves in a conference double header. Coming up short both games, the Braves took both games from the Eagles in the end.
Game 1
Game 1 of the double header was a head to head pitchers battle between Braves pitcher Casson Rasmussen and Eagles pitcher Tahlor Stefek. Rasmusenn (Ottawa) took the win for the Braves, only allowing 4 hits in 7 seven innings; striking out 3 and walking 3. Stefek took the loss for the Eagles, striking out 12 and giving up 3 earned runs. Starting off the game strong, the Eagles first-baseman Bailey Zornes hit a 2-run homer in the top of the first, and continued to be a force to be reckon with throughout the game; going 2-2, 2 RBI, and coming in to score 1 run. The Braves found a way to fight back in the 2nd with a solo home run off of the bat of 2nd basemen Madison Bunfill, making it a 2-1 ball game in favor of the Eagles. Maintaining the lead until the 5th, the Braves rallied together for a couple of hits and took the lead 3-2; leaving the Eagles trailing the remainder of the game.
Game 2
Game 2 of the double header was a back and forth hitting parade for both teams. At the plate, Bailey Zornes went 2-3 with 2 RBI, Lindy Alexander and Tahlor Stefek both trailed closely behind going 2-4 for the Eagles. For the Braves, designated hitter Jilian Kygar went 3-3 at the plate with 2 RBI. The Eagles were unable to pull together enough hits to outscore the Braves, ending the game 6-9 in favor of the Braves.
The Lady Eagles are set to face off here in Bartlesville on April 10th against the visiting Southwestern College Mound Builders for another KCAC double header.
