Box Score The Lady Eagles softball team hit the road earlier this week to join the top 8 teams in Great Bend, Kansas for the KCAC Conference Tournament. Heading into the tournament as the 4thseed, the Lady Eagles were set to face off against the 5th seed McPherson College Bulldogs for the third time in a week and a half. The Lady Bulldogs jumped out in front in the 3rd inning with a 2-run homerun off the bat of left fielder Kylecia Taylor, and the Lady Eagles held the Bulldogs the rest of the game. The 3rd inning would end up being only inning of scouring for either team, as center fielder Tahlor Stefek lead off the third with a stand up double and DH lindy Alexander scored her with an RBI single. On the mound for the Lady Eagles, Abbey Ely threw a phenomenal game with 7 innings pitched, 6 strikeouts, and only 2 earned runs. Unfortunately, the Lady Eagles could not rally together enough hits to outscore the lady Bulldogs and took the loss 2-1.
Entering the losers bracket, the Lady Eagles were now set to face off against the 2 seed Bethany College Swedes. In another close game, the Lady Eagles continued to struggle at the plate against their opponents. A scoreless game until the 5th, the Swedes came together and scored 1 run off of a stand-up triple, following with a sac fly off the bat of shortstop Ciera Flores. On the mound for the Lady Eagles, Tahlor Stefek pitched 6 innings, struck out 10, and allowed 1 earned run. With multiple opportunities, the Lady Eagles were unable to pull through and score runs offensively and were sent home with a loss of 1-0.
The Lady Eagles ended the season 4th in regular season play and 31-16 in the record book. Coach Shawn Woods ended the season on a high note with the following words, "It was a learning experience for us all. The girls adapted to a new coach, a new way of doing things, and overcame adversity of the previous season. Overall, I am extremely proud of the hard work and dedication I witnessed from every young lady on this time. Next year can't come soon enough."
