EAGLES KCAC TOURNEY ENDS AGAINST OTTAWA

The #6 Oklahoma Wesleyan University Baseball team hit the road earlier this week for the KCAC Conference Tournament in Great Bend, Kansas. Heading into the tournament as the #1 seed, the Eagles faced off against the #6 seed the Bethany College Swedes. Taking the game from the Swedes 6-5, the Eagles outhit the Swedes with 13 hits throughout 9 innings.

The second game of the tournament for the Eagles was a back and forth dog fight against the McPherson College Bulldogs throughout 11 innings of play. At the plate for the Eagles, Cody Muncy went 3-5 with 2 RBI, 1 run scored, and 1 home run. On the mound, the Eagles rotated through the bullpen first with Crosby Bringhurst who pitched 7 innings, struck out 9, and only allowed 2 earned runs. On the flip side, the McPherson College Bulldogs walked the game off in the 11th and defeated the #1 seed 6-5; putting the Eagles into the loser's bracket for the remainder of the tournament.

Going into Friday, the Eagles were set to face off against the Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes. The Eagles jumped out on top early in the 1st inning 9-0 with 8 walks and a grand slam off the bat of Cody Muncy. Along with Muncy, Nick Chavez, Estefferson Melean, Remi Patry, Danny Perez, and Isaac Wersland all jumped on the home run train to bring the score to a scolding hot 25-2. On the mound for the Eagles, Michael Mendoza threw 7 innings, struck out 5, only allowed 2 runs, and gave way to closer Austin Berglund

The final game of the conference tournament was a back and forth ball game between the Eagles and the Ottawa University Braves. At the plate for the Eagles, Isaac Wersland went 2-3, with 2 RBI, 1 run scored, and led the game off with a solo home run. In order to keep the Eagles off balance in the box, the Braves shuffled through 5 different pitchers and struck out 13 eagles throughout 9 innings of play. Unfortunately, the Eagles could not pull together enough hits to outscore the Braves and took home a loss in the record book of 6-3.

The Eagles having won the KCAC regular season title will now look forward to Thursday, May 14th to see where they will be heading to for the opening rounds of the national tournament.
