OKWU Defeats Southwestern on the Road

The KCAC regular season champs went on the road Wednesday night and picked up an impressive win at Southwestern. The Builders had defeated the Eagles in an early January matchup, but OKWU saw their bench score 53 points in a 75-66 victory. The Eagles are 27-2 on the season.

Recap:

  • A back and forth first half saw both teams claim the lead at various points, with Southwestern leading by as much as 6 at one point. With 3:42 left in the first half, the game was tied 28-28 before a quick 5-0 run gave the Eagles the lead. At the half, OKWU led 35-32.
  • Neither team could pull away early in the second half as buckets were hard to come by. With 12:32 left, the Builders tied the game at 41. A 9-2 run for OKWU gave them a 50-43 lead with 8:42 to play.
  • The Eagles extended the lead to double-digits when Kaleb Stokes hit a 3-pointer to give OKWU a 55-45 lead.
  • Southwestern battled back, cutting the lead to 6 with under a minute left after Cevin Clark hit 3 free throws. However, they would get no closer, as OKWU extended the lead by hitting some foul shots of their own to claim a 75-66 victory.

Now the Numbers:

  • One of the major differences in the game was 3-point shooting. The Eagles hit 42.3% of their shots from deep, while Southwestern was at 28% for the game.
  • OKWU's bench scored 53 points in a massive effort. Southwestern's reserves mustered only 6.
  • Lense Ramey led the OKWU bench with 28 points, his best scoring production of the season. He went 8-11 from beyond the arc.
  • Other notable performances included Kaleb Stokes' 11 points, Taylen Miller's 6 assists, and Valentin Van Putten's 8 rebounds.
