Eagles Win Series at Avila

Box Score 1

After a slight interruption due to weather, the OKWU Eagles headed back to Avila yesterday to finish off their 3-game series with Avila. OKWU was bested in the first matchup on April 9, losing 4-1, but the Eagles rebounded yesterday, sweeping the day and beating Avila convincingly to take the series.

Game 1 Recap (4-1 loss, April 9):

  • The OKWU Eagles were on the board first, scoring in the 2nd inning when Mason Brinkley hit a solo homerun.
  • Unfortunately, that was the extent of the OKWU offense on the day, as they struggled to produce at the plate. As a team, they got just 7 hits on the afternoon.
  • Avila tied the game in the 4th and would add to the lead in the 5th and 6th innings.
  • The loss moved OKWU to 0-5 in KCAC play.

Game 2 Recap (9-4 win, April 14):

  • After a few days off, the OKWU Eagles were much stronger in the series-ending doubleheader. They got on the board in the 1st inning to take a 1-0 lead when Jesus Rojas knocked a single that allowed Derek Sims to score.
  • Avila would take the lead, first on a 2-run homerun in the 2nd inning. A solo homerun in the 3rd gave Avila a 3-1 lead.
  • OKWU cut into that lead with a Derek Sims homer in the 6th, but Avila increased the lead to 4-2 when they added a run in the 7th.
  • OKWU would retake the lead in the 8th when Cody Muncy blasted a 3-run homerun. They added another run that inning to make it a 6-4 lead.
  • In the 9th, OKWU added 3 more runs to secure a 9-4 victory.

Game 3 Recap (11-2 win, 7 innings):

  • The OKWU bats were strong again in the final matchup of the series. They took a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning with a Cody Muncy RBI sac fly.
  • Muncy's bat stayed hot; in the 3rd, he hit a double that scored Hector Manon to give OKWU a 2-1 lead. Later that inning, Seth Delgado hit a homer to give OKWU a 4-1 lead.
  • In the 4th, OKWU added another 4 runs, including 2 RBI from Seth Delgado on a bases-loaded single.
  • Both teams would add a run in the 5th inning, and OKWU's lead was 9-2.
  • In the 6th, Logan Ivy hit a double that brought in two more runs to give OKWU an 11-2 lead that they would hold onto for the remainder of the game.

Up Next:

  • The Eagles are 16-8 on the season and improved to 2-5 in the KCAC after the series win. They are home this week, with a single matchup with Southwestern on Wednesday at 6 p.m. and a weekend series with Bethany on Friday and Saturday. All these matchups are scheduled to be played at Doenges Stadium in Bartlesville.
