Box Score 3 Lakeland, FL –
The Eagles Baseball team concluded their long road trip to Florida by facing the #1 Southeastern University Fire. The Eagles were excited to face such strong competition, as Southeastern is known for consistently being ranked #1 in the nation. The Eagles looked to bounce back after a back and forth battle against Warner (FL) and show they are a top competitor against the Fire.
Game 1 v. SEU (L 6-5)
Starting off game 1 on the bump, Michael Mendoza looked to build off his success in his start against the New College of Florida Banyans. Looking to throw off the Fire's offense, Mendoza was superb for the Eagles through his five innings of work, only allowing 4 hits, 4 earned runs, and struck out seven. Relieving Mendoza, Carson Frazier and Matthew Zogob were excellent out of the pen, only allowing 3 hits and 1 run in their combined time on the bump.
Offensively, the Eagles struggled against the Fire and were unable to get guys on in order to create rallies. It wasn't until the 8th inning when the energy from the Eagles came to life starting with a double from Grant Hershberger. The Eagles maintained the energy heading into the 9th after back-to-back players got on base, followed by a 3-run homer from Jorge Aldrete. Bring the score to 6-5 in favor of the Fire, the Eagles were unable to push another run across and fell to the Fire in game 6-5.
Game 2 v. SEU (L 13-5)
The Eagles were excited to continue this series after a close game the previous night against the Fire. After giving up 5 runs in the 2nd inning, the Eagles realized they would have to work from behind. After a few scoreless innings, the Eagles offense started to have some life in the 4th inning. After a few back-to-back hits, Josh Logan cleared the bases with a grand slam to bring the game within 1 run. Additionally, a few innings later in his pinch hit at bat, Connor Hickey got his first home run of the season. Unfortunately, the Fire offense kept pouring on, making it difficult for the Eagles to match, resulting in a 5-13 loss.
Game 3 v. SEU (L 9-5)
In the final game of the series, Evan Foor took the bump. Giving up only 2 runs in the first 4 innings, Foor gave the Eagle's offense a chance to take the lead. After loading up the bases with 2 outs, Ravaughn Morgan came up clutch with a bases-clearing double. A couple pitches later, Victor Sanchez followed it up with a RBI double of his own, resulting in a 4-2 lead for the Eagles. After a rough 5th inning, the Fire offense was able to gain momentum and ended up scoring 7 runs, taking the lead back from the Eagles. Although the Eagles tried to add on, it wouldn't be enough, resulting in a tough 5-9 loss.
