Box Score 3 Leavensworth, KS –
The OKWU Eagles opened up KCAC play against the University of Saint Mary Spires on Sunday, February 18th due to inclement weather postponing the games a couple days. Looking to start conference off on a strong note, the Eagles were eager to get on the field.
Game 1
The first game of the series started off with a bang; a 3-run homerun from Josh Logan in the first inning. The Spires quickly responded with a 5-run inning to regain the lead from the Eagles. Carlos Lopez, however, came out of the bullpen and slowed down the Spires offense in his 3 innings. The Eagles offense wasn't able to add on any runs until the 7th inning where they were able to put up 5 runs on a few big hits. After regaining the lead, Brayden Scheiss relived Lopez and was dominant on the mound. Scheiss went three innings without giving up a single hit while striking out 3, leading the Eagles to a 9-7 victory.
Game 2
The second game of the series started off a little slower than the first with the Eagles scoring their first run in the third inning with a sacrifice fly by Victor Sanchez, then followed by a Jorge Aldrete single, giving the Eagles an early 2-0 lead. In the next two innings, the Spires responded by adding 4-runs, giving them the lead. Victor Sanchez, however, quickly tied the game up in the 5th with a two-run homerun in the top of the 5th inning. The Eagles were able to add a few more runs, giving them a 7-4 lead going into the bottom of the 9th. The Spires rallied back and tied the score 7-7 by a bases-clearing double, forcing the game into extra innings. After taking the game into the bottom of the 11th inning, the Eagles were unable to score and the Spires took advantage of that, winning the game 8-7.
Game 3
After an upsetting loss, the Eagles were ready to bounce back and win the series. After quickly loading up the bases, Josh Logan hit one deep over the centerfield fence for a grand slam to get a quick 4-0 lead. The Eagles were able to score 2 more runs in the second inning, and 8 runs in the 3rd, giving them a quick 14-1 lead. Braylen Pippen, in his first start with the Eagles, went 3 innings only giving up 1 hit and striking out 5 batters. The Eagles then brought 4 different pitchers out of the bullpen who gave up a total of 2 hits and no earned runs, leading the Eagles to a 14-1 win.

The Eagles are looking forward to their first series at home against Friends University on Friday, February 23rd at 1:30 PM, and then a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at noon.
