The OKWU Softball team had their first home opener on Monday, February 19th against the Ecclesia Royals.
Game 1 v. Ecclesia
The first game of the day started off with a bang with a Jess Watson double that scored 2 runs after back-to-back hits. A few batters later, Maddy Wiese hit a 3-run bomb to lead the Lady Eagles to an early 5-0 lead. The next inning, Jewell Caudle hit a solo homerun, followed by a 2-run homerun from Raegan Rector to increase the lead to 7-0. After scoring a couple extra runs, Jess Watson capped off the game with a solo homerun in the bottom of the 6th, making the score 11-3.
Sage Smith took the circle for the Lady Eagles, pitching 4 innings while only giving up 4 hits and tallying 3 strikeouts. Lydia Polk and Ashleigh McCause kept the Royals to only one unearned run in their combined two innings, leading the Lady Eagles to an 11-3 win.
Game 2 v. Ecclesia
The second game of the double header started off even quicker than the previous game with a bases-clearing double by Reagan Rector, making the score 3-0. The Eagles kept tallying up the runs throughout the first, batting all the way through the lineup ending the inning 8-0. The offensive onslaught continued into the second inning, sparked by a 2-run double by Maddy Wiese to left center. Soon after, Carley Billings had herself an RBI single, followed by a 2-run double by Reagan Rector to improve the scoring to 15-1. The Eagles kept it coming in 4th inning, scoring 7 runs thanks to a grand slam by pinch-hitter Tye North, followed by 2 more RBI's from Jamie Keeling and Avery Tanner, leading to a 21-1 win over the Royals.
