TEXAS -

            The Lady Eagles kicked off their season with a road trip in Texas including three matches against LeTourneau, McMurry, and Jacksonville College. These matches were the first ones in the spring history of the OKWU Women's Tennis program. Four out of five players are freshman and started their collegiate tennis career this past weekend.

            On Friday, the Lady Eagles competed against LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas. With low temperatures and strong windy conditions, the Eagles lost 8-1 for their first ever spring dual match. LeTourneau showed off a strong line-up, but some girls were able to pick up some sets and compete in close matches.

On Saturday, OKWU competed against the Warhawks from McMurry University in Longview, Texas. After splitting doubles matches, the Lady Eagles needed to win four singles to take home their first ever victory. Unfortunately, only two points were taken by the Lady Eagles. OKWU fall short 6-3 against a solid team of McMurry University.

After a day off on Sunday, the girls traveled to Jacksonville, Texas to challenge a very competitive team of Jacksonville College. After losing the double point, the Lady Eagles moved to singles play with the need to pick up victories to get their first win of their season. Facing a very strong line-up from the Jaguars, the Lady Eagles won three singles out of five and tie the match to a 3-3 score.

During this trip to Texas, Madeline and Jewel Henderson (Bradenton, Florida) picked up their first collegiate victories. Congratulations to them for this tremendous achievement!

 UPCOMING EVENTS

The Eagles will stay in town for a week and a half before travelling to Abilene, Texas for two match-ups against Howard Payne and Hardin Simmons University.
