Softball started out their 2024 season on the road with a weekend series against the Wayland Baptist University Pioneers. With the Pioneers looking to open their first ever softball season and the Lady Eagles looked to open another successful season, both teams needed to start strong and get on the board early and often. Taking all four game from the Pioneers, the Lady Eagles start out the 2024 season 4-0 and on absolute fire.
Game 1 v. WBU (W 7-5)
The first game started off with WBU jumping ahead quickly with a 3 run first inning while the Lady Eagles went on to score 1 run in the first, making it a 3-1 game in favor of the Lady Pioneers. The Lady Pioneers lead didn't last long as the Lady Eagles offense came to life in the second, with a 5 run second inning. Jewell Caudle was strong in game 1 for the Lady Eagles in the box, scoring 3 RBIs off of 1 hit. In the circle for the Lady Eagles, Maddy Weise allowed the Pioneers to score 5 earned runs in 4 innings, making way for Saige Smith to finish up the game with 3 innings. The Lady Eagles went on to defeat the Lady Pioneers 7-5 and started off season in the win column.
Game 2 v. WBU (W 15-1)
The Lady Eagles used the momentum of game one to come out firing in game two. Defeating the Lady Pioneers 15-1, the Lady Eagles offense came to life and never looked back. Leading the hit parade, Jess Watson was absolutely stellar, going 3-4 with 3 RBI's and scoring 3 runs, Watson looks to be a consistent leader this 2024 season for the Lady Eagles. In the circle, Saige Smith was superb in her 5 innings of time, striking out 7 and only allowing 1 run.
Game 3 v. WBU (W 12-4)
The Lady Eagles were able to keep their strong offense alive throughout game three, defeating the Lady Pioneers 12-4. Having their best inning in the 5th, the Lady Eagles scored 5 and closed out their run rule of game 3. Raegan Rector drove in 3 of the 12 runs for the Lady Eagles, going 2-3 in the box and scoring 2 runs as well. Saige Smith once again took the mound for the Lady Eagles, pitching 5 innings, Smith struck out 4 and allowed 3 runs to score.
Game 4 v. WBU (W 10-1)
Looking to close out their opening weekend undefeated, the Lady Eagles brought the heat to a cold day defeating the Lady Pioneers 10-1. Consistency was key in the defeat over the Lady Pioneers, as they scored 2 runs in 3 of the 5 innings of play. Jewell Caudle led the Eagles in the box in game four, scoring 2 runs and gaining 2 RBI's off of 2 hits in 3 at bats. Closing out opening weekend on the mound, Maddy Wiese threw 4 innings, struck out 3 batters, and limited the Lady Pioneers to 1 hit.

The Lady Eagles are back on the road this upcoming weekend in Mesquite, Texas for the SCS NAIA Invitational. Looking to face off against 4 different teams, the Lady Eagles look to remain undefeated and add wins to their win column.
