Oklahoma Weselyan University athletic director Kirk Kelley announced the hiring of David Blakemore as the next head coach for the OKWU beach volleyball program. Blakemore will be the second beach volleyball coach in the program's young history.
Blakemore brings extensive experience to the program. He has been the Lead Coach/Co-Director at The OC Beach since 2017, and prior to that he served as a coach with USA Volleyball's Beach High Performance program from 2015-2016. He also is a member of the OKRVA Board of Directors and serves on the Beach Committee, a role he has held since 2017.
"I'm excited about the opportunity to lead Oklahoma's first collegiate beach volleyball program, and to be part of the building process for the OKWU beach program in one of America's fastest growing collegiate sports," Blakemore said.
Blakemore is a graduate of Missouri State University (formerly Southwest Missouri State) in Springfield, Missouri. He and his wife, Karen, have one daughter, Holly, one son-in-law, Connor, and one grandson, Alan.
The OKWU beach volleyball team finished its first season of competition in the spring of 2022. The pair of Katie Lindley and Addie Mathias finished in 2nd place at the Tri-State Conference Tournament, earning First Team All-Conference honors along the way.
