Lindsborg, KS - The OKWU Tennis Teams were on the road this last weekend, competing at the KCAC Fall Individual Championships hosted by Bethany College in Lindsborg, KS. The tournament included 3 draws of doubles and 6 draws of singles and the Eagles competed against various KCAC opponents.
Originally scheduled for the 15th and 16th of September, weather was not in their favor and all matches were rearranged in order to play all draws on Saturday the 15th. The Eagles sent 6 different athletes to compete on the men's side of the tournament & one lady for the women. With all seven athletes picking up a victory in their first round, they also secured a Top 8 spot in their respective draws.
Eloi Riva, a freshman from Orange, France secured the gold medal after beating the # 1 seed in the semi-final and the #3 seed in the final.
Preston Callahan, sophomore from Muskogee, OK and Adam Spencer, senior from Mustang, OK finished at the fourth place after their high-level performance in quarterfinal by knocking off seed #3 and #2 of Bethel College.
On the women side, Nikoleta Aleksic, Sophomore from Belgrade, Serbia lost in her first round against the #5 seed of Evangel with a competitive match for her first battle as a Lady Eagle.
UPCOMING EVENTS
The OKWU Tennis Teams will be back in action next weekend at the ITA Regional Championships hosted by Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, KS. The first rounds are scheduled for Friday. September 22nd.
