Lady Eagles Suffer Last-Minute Disappointment

On Wednesday the #8 OKWU Lady Eagles met the #5 Central Methodist Eagles on a neutral field in Overland Park, Kansas. In a tightly-contested match, a last-minute goal from Central Methodist propelled them to a win.

Recap:

  • In the first half, neither team could find any offensive rhythm, as neither team scored during the first 45. CMU did produce 10 shots in the 1st half to outpace OKWU, who only mustered 4.
  • In the 2nd, Central Methodist scored first when Roneisha Frank scored off the Sandra Jakobsen assist.
  • In the 73rd minute, Marjolen Nekesa drilled a penalty kick after CMU fouled the Lady Eagles inside the box.
  • In the 89th minute, after a foul on OKWU was called, Andrea Villar stepped up for a free kick. She booted it towards the goal and snuck it past OKWU's goalie to give CMU a 2-1 lead with less than a minute on the clock.
  • OKWU could not break through the CMU defense in the final minute, falling to defeat by a 2-1 score.
