On Saturday afternoon April 10th, the Lady Eagles looked to pair the KCAC tournament championship with their KCAC regular season championship. The #1 seeded Lady Eagles traveled to the Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita, Kansas to take on the #2 seeded Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes in the KCAC tournament championship match. In the previous meeting between the two teams back in November the Lady Eagles took a 4-0 win.
On championship Saturday, everyone in attendance would be treated to a good one. Most of the first half would be a stalemate as neither team was able to strike first, until the 39th minute when OKWU was able to land the first blow when Daniela Ortiz scored off the assist from Kayla Beaver. Before Ortiz was able to find the back of the net, combined between the Eagles and Coyotes there was 11 shots (7 OKWU, 4 KWU), with 5 of them being on goal (2 OKWU, 3 KWU).
Going into the 2nd half we would see more of what we saw in the first half. Once again, there would be a combined total of 10 shots (5 OKWU, 5 KWU), with 5 of the shots being on goal between the Eagles (2) and Coyotes (3) before we would see another goal. This goal would come from the Eagles' Tania Mocholi off the assist from Marjolen Nekesa in the 81st minute. Now with a 2 goal lead, the Eagles could see finish line on bringing home the tournament championship and with under 10 minutes to play, that would be enough to secure the win.
The Lady Eagles would outshoot the Coyotes 15-10 (SOG 8-6). Defensively OKWU's goalie Nerea Perez Mora was nothing short of spectacular as she was able to stop all 5 shots against her.
The Lady Eagles will now wait to see where the will be headed off to for the NAIA National Tournament Opening Round. The selection show will be April 12th at 11:00am.
