The Eagles began their trip to Florida with a three-game series against the New College of Florida Banyans. Both teams starting their second series of the year, they looked to gain ground with season approaching quickly. With one game on Friday, followed by a double header on Saturday, the Eagles looked to take a series from the Banyans and continue strong throughout their Florida trip. The Eagles were able to take the series from the Banyans after winning 2 out of the 3 games played.
Game 1 v. New College of Florida - W
Michael Mendoza took the start on the bump for the Eagles for game 1 of the series and showed out through 5 innings of mound time. Mendoza pitched 5 spectacular innings while only giving up one hit. The two relievers for the Eagles, Cade McCollum and Matthew Weidkamp were both hitless and scoreless in their two innings of play; giving the Eagles pitching staff a 1 hit game win.
Offensively, the Eagles exploded in the first 3 innings of the game, scoring all 14 runs in those innings. The Eagles were led by Luis Antigua and Victor Sanchez, combining for 7 of the 13 RBIs. The Eagles shut out the Banyans 14-0 and looked to keep the energy going forward in the series.
Game 2 v. New College of Florida – L
The second game of the series started off with a 2-1 lead in favor of the Eagles. Maintaining the lead until the 3rd inning, the Banyans went on to take a 7-1 lead over the Eagles due to a 7 run lead from the Banyans offense. The Eagles were able to snap back with a 2-run homerun from Victory Sanchez in the 7th inning, giving the Eagles their spark back and looking to battle back late in the game. Showing a late rally, the Eagles fought till the very last out, yet this was not enough, resulting in a 7-10 ball game in favor of the Banyans.
Game 3 v. New College of Florida - W
After a disappointing loss for the Eagles, they looked to earn redemption and find momentum with a quick turnaround. Starting game 3 off with a bang, starting catcher, Victor Sanchez hit another 2-run homerun in the first inning. Throughout the game the Eagles continued to add on offensively and push the Banyans bullpens to shift. Ravaughn Morgan had himself another game, going 2-4 with an RBI and 3-runs scored. In his 5 innings of play, Evan Foor gave up only 3 earned runs with 7 strikeouts, leading the Eagles to a 12-4 win.
