The Lady Eagles traveled to Waxahachie, TX for their first road game of the 2023-2024 season against the SAGU Lions.
Falling behind early 0-10 in the first three minutes of the game, the Lady Eagles bounced back and put up 8 points within two minutes. Looking to overcome the deficit, the Lady Eagles rallied back with those 8 points, but were unable to keep the pace going. Although behind the Lions the majority of second and third quarter, they remained in reaching distance and continued to push their pace in order to keep it a tight half.
It wasn't until halfway through the third quarter where the Lady Eagles took their first lead of the game. The Lions responded, however, and fought to regain the lead at the end of the third. The Lady Eagles unfortunately were unable to take the lead again in the fourth quarter, resulting in a 61-67 loss to the SAGU Lions.
Despite playing less than half the game, Rashaan Smith was able to lead the Lady Eagles with 15 points and 12 rebounds; giving Smith her first double-double as a Lady Eagles. Zariah Tillman also had an impressive game, scoring 14 points with 4 assists and 3 steals. Although the Lady Eagles had better shooting percentages than the Lions, they were unable to get up as many shots which played a huge factor in being outscored by just six points.
